Down Right Spooky
Haunted Places Near Utica NY you can visit legally
1. Beardsley Castle
This is less than twenty miles east of Utica. It's fine dining and people say that the original owners of the property haunt the place. Don't be fooled by the ghosts, the place is inviting and the ownership is great. Also a former castle existed on Castle Road in Newport, which is a good fishing site. The castle remains are gone, but a good chilly romantic story unfolded there.
2. Star Hill/Potato Hill
This is less than twenty miles north of Utica. It is off of 12 North, where you turn on to Star Hill Road. Also Potato Hill is said to be haunted as well. Please be respectful of the woods and take your trash with you. Near state land, it's scenic and spooky. A few cemetery sites are available for your viewing. Land has revolutionary roots for those history buffs. See also Oriskany Battlefield for ghostly battle-like feelings.
3. Utica Psychiatric Center
This place is right in the city of Utica off of Whitesboro St. before it turns into Court Street. It's located on the site of Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center, and also has a building with the Missing and Exploited Children organization. The history is down right creepy, the place invented the restraining device called the Utica Crib. The place is suspiciously haunted. Also a historical site. No entry however.
4. Marcy Correctional Facility
Come and see where the Son of Sam stayed while on your way to Starr Hill if you are taking the back roads that includes Old River Road. Stay outside the barbed wire for your own good.
