We visited the Trail of Terror in 2008, as we pulled up in the car, we saw a huge area, in which there was a ticket booth, a food vendor, a huge bon-fire, a movie screen, and the two attractions, the haunted house and trail. We purchased out tickets and headed towards the haunted house, a plain building with one door on the far left, and an exit ramp on the far right. We hadn't seen a group enter since we arrived, so we assumed that we would get right in. We where wrong. We ended up waiting around Twenty Minutes before they let the whole, very large, line enter. The first room is a faux-brick lined room, with a coffin in the middle, nicely light. They told us to form a line, and to hold a very long garden hose. As soon as every one was holding on, the lights went out and we where on our own. The haunt was nothing but dark passageways, and the scenes where nothing but a few costumes actors running around, backed by deafening grunge music. We exited the haunted house, and went to the line for the trail. After waiting in line for the trail, we where told that one of the actors was struck by a customer, and we would have to wait even longer. After the extra wait time, the guide took us. In our group was a small group of children (13 to 15 years old) chaperoned by their mother. The guide led us through the forest, and every so often we would see a scene. First was a graveyard, haunted by Freddy Kruger. After Freddy's Graveyard, we where led to a bare spot, and where instructed to stop. Chainsaw time. Very scary. After they circled us with chainsaws for about 2 minutes, we where led to another spot, with more chainsaws. This continued for the whole trail. Walk. Chainsaws. Walk. Chainsaws. Exit.
Overall, I would not recommend the Trail of Terror in Volney, New York. Even though the ticket price in moderate, compared to other haunted houses, the attractions left much to be desired.
