On a scale of 1 to 5, this place gets a 10!!!
This past Sunday night, my boyfriend, sister, and a couple friends we’re searching Scarycuse.com to see if we could hit up any of the haunted attractions in the area before they closed for the weekend. We came across the posting for The Last Ride in Palermo, my boyfriend and I told the group that we absolutely had to make the drive out. Having already been earlier this October, my boyfriend and I knew how absolutely terrifying the hayride and haunted house were. After wasting our money at Fright Nights the night before, we were all ready for a crazy scream-fest.
We got to The Last Ride at about 9:45 (closes at 10pm on Sundays) and part of me was concerned that the actors wouldn’t be “into” their performance as much considering we were the last victims of the weekend, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. We were the only five people on the hayride and the monsters took full advantage it! It was the crazy good, hands-on, terrifying experience we were looking for and it had only just begun! For the duration of the hayride, the actors were in our faces, growling, grabbing, and chainsawing their way to scream after scream.
The haunted house, which has doubled in size since last year, is just as intense as the hayride. There are actors around every turn who are enthusiastic and way too eager to scare the crap right out of you. Again, it’s a hands-on attraction with elaborate sets and costumes that make it incredibly difficult to separate the props from the actors. I loved it! I’m a total screamer and sometimes I try to run, only in this particular house there is no place to run. You can run forward right into an actor with a chainsaw or run backward into an actor with a knife – either way you’re dead! The other thing I enjoyed about this house is that the scares came from actors; there weren’t many sound effects or loud blast horns that some other attractions use to get scares. Every time I screamed or jumped was because of an actor putting in 110% effort to get a genuine scare.
The first time I went out to The Last Ride I swore I would NEVER get into the haunted hearse that serves as the most intense attraction at the site. But after some serious pleading from my friends and the owner of the place, I agreed to try it. There are no words to explain the level of terror that the hearse ride provides (and I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise anyway). I’ll just tell you this – it is an actual hearse you’re sitting in, which is creepy enough, but to make matters worse there are no handles on the inside. Whatever is on the outside can get IN, but no way for you to let yourself OUT! I have never been part of a more intense, terrifying haunt. I think my heart literally stopped beating a few times!
Every October, my boyfriend and I go out searching for the best haunted attractions in Central New York. Let's put it this way, it is Tuesday morning now and my throat still hurts from screaming my way through The Last Ride! This was our first year visiting The Last Ride, but it most definitely will not be our last. Consider us lifers! We’ll be back every October and rumor has it the hayride will be twice as long next year – can’t wait! ;D
