This is the first haunt review of many to come since we will be visiting as many as we can this season.
We had a group of 8 go this evening and decided to check out the last ride. We purchased the combo pass for hayride and haunted house for $15 each person (fairly priced initially for two attractions).
The ambiance and 35 minute drive from Syracuse was very cool, especially on a beautiful cool night with a full moon. Perfect night for a hayride!
The parking was okay, we did have to park on the dark street because the lot was full. There was a new entry to the attractions that was nice to see, and ability to pay by credit card was a great option. They also added a movie theater overlooking the hay wagon ride that was a nice option when the wait is long.
There were probably 35 to 45 people in line and the wait time was acceptable. The "police" officer stood near the waiting area and talked up blood creek manor and trail of terror (which was a good thing), but then became unprofessional bashing screamers hollow, which wasn't appreciated even though in the past we would agree)
The ticket system was good, and we entered the wagon towed by a pick up truck.
Unfortunately the wagon ride was quite disappointing since it lacked creativity, the element of surprise and it was quite predictable. The wagon spent too much time at each scene with ineffective acting. The clown tent was different and a neat concept, but a little drawn out. The Jeepers Creepers area was great this year as well. The chainsaws were just too much. Overall it was rather on the short side, but drawn out at each scene to make it feel longer.
Then we went to the haunted house. The haunt was two trailers that wreaked of cat urine and body odor. The set ideas were good, but the props were mediocre (more like props you'd get at spirits), and the acting was hit or miss, with few startle effects. They need to target the first, middle and last person. The actors did do a good job at keeping the flow of the line moving. The end was a new room, and way better than before, but it still needs a grand finale bang!
There was a new attraction called the execution, and of course the famous hearse ride, neither of which we went on this time.
Overall our group was disappointed with the last ride, the creativity needs revamping, and the scares need to be worked on, however the organization from ticket sales to cue, to attraction to exit was good and has gotten way better through the last few years. The haunted house isn't worth the amount we paid, but the hayride was reasonable.
