Haunt: Blood Creek Manor (Sandy Creek, NY)
Score: 3 out of 5 Skulls
After a long, but not tooo long drive from N. Syracuse (about 45-50 min.), we pulled up to Blood Creek Manor. After buying our tickets ($12 for both attractions), we went into the "Museum". The Museum is basically a collection of horror character dolls and collectibles behind chicken wire lining the walls of a small room. As much as I don't think this would be considered a "Museum" by any stretch of the definition... It was still a bit creepy to me that some fruitcake out in sandy creek set them all up just so, and rolled out that chicken wire to protect them all and is probably thrilled by the whole thing, and he happens to run a haunted house & trail. In that sense, it added to the attraction..
The indoor Haunted House was great for awhile. Darkness, screams, decent amount of scares and then... It ended. It was just too short. I enjoyed what was there, but it was overshadowed by the length (or lack thereof ).
After that, I thought for sure the night was gonna be a bust. I've never been a fan of outdoor Haunted trails, and didn't expect this one to be any different. I couldn't have been more wrong. The trail was nice and long and packed with scares. I was impressed with how many little "shantys" and cabins were built way out in the woods. From a clever circus tent scene with disco lights to leatherface cutting his way out of a locked shed with a real chainsaw... Even a footbridge over a small river with a boat, complete with swamp creatures. Thankfully, the trail made up for what the indoor haunt lacked in length. And btw, I've never been to haunt with a more authentic Freddy Krueger... The "knife hands" were recognizably made with real blades of metal, and were as authentic as it gets. Impressive. Jason was impressive also. Aside from the fact that he has a real hockey mask instead of some Halloween store mask.. He was a huge hulkin dude who's presence immediately caught everyone off guard. Good stuff!
Bloodcreek Manor was waaay better, and less than half the price of another outdoor trail thats about the same distance from Syracuse.
Other than Fright Nights @ the Fair and CMC's in Cicero (Which I liked), there aren't many haunts in the immediate Syr. area. So If you're a Halloween and Haunt dork like me, you'll probably be driving a decent distance at some point anyway... In my opinion, Blood Creek Manor is worth the drive.
PS: Don't wear your new kicks, they're gonna get muddy!
